I’m Amiko. My passion is fashion design and helping bring ideas to life.

My journey from fashion student to independent designer has been filled with many lessons and revelations.

From designing for corporate fashion brands, crafting tools that empower fellow creatives, and sharing my sketching online, I’m here to share what I’ve learned and help you find joy in your own creative process.

Here’s how I can help.

  • New to fashion and don’t know where to start? My Beginner’s Series will help you sketch the basic fashion figure in step-by-step tutorials.

  • Want to design fashion collections while optimizing creativity and energy? I’ll show you a an efficient design process to Design Smarter, Not Harder.

  • Need reliable tools for sketching and design? I made these Figure Templates and Procreate Brushes to make fashion illustration more satisfying.

Fashion design has been my path to express ideas, find focus, and create fulfillment.

  • My favorite sketching tools are mechanical pencil and paper. I use figure templates from the Croquis Kit.

For digital sketching, I like Procreate. I sketch on the iPad pro 2nd generation 12.9 inch

I use pencil and paper brushes as well as fashion brushes for technical sketches.

  • I studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. I graduated in 2013 with a BFA in Fine Arts with a specialization in Women’s Sportswear.

  • Personally, the biggest challenge (and the part I love most) is empathizing with the customer. I might think an idea is great, but sometimes it doesn’t resonate. There is so much value in testing ideas in the real world, and getting feedback. I love reading customer reviews.

  • Keep practicing and have fun!  Follow your enthusiasm as much as possible. Consistent practice over the long term really pays off.

Good work ethic is important but self-care is equally, if not more, important. Balancing the professional with the personal shapes quality of life.

  • My process starts by defining essential elements like the brand, customer, and season.

Once that foundation is set, I develop a concept or find inspiration for the collection. I dive into research and put together images to guide my creative vision.

Using my inspiration board as a reference, I brainstorm and sketch out rough ideas.

Later, I refine these sketches digitally. Sketching in Procreate gives me the freedom to experiment without the fear of mistakes, making the process feel dynamic and fluid.

In the early days of my career, I faced burnout, losing touch with the simple joy that first drew me to fashion design.

Why do I write about fashion design, create tools, and share my ideas online?

  • Sketching a design on paper with purpose and clarity brings it to life. It’s can be deeply satisfying.

  • I create tools I wish I had. I think, What would make my life easier? Then I build it, use it, refine it, and share it with others.

  • I’m not going to lie—I struggled a lot in the early days of my fashion career. Creating resources to help others succeed is my way of turning those struggles into something meaningful.
